DRAFT — first version for review, not final legal wording. This page has not been reviewed by an attorney and has not been approved. It describes how the site is meant to work while the launch set is assembled.

1. What this site is
African World News publishes headlines and short extracts from news stories reported and published by other outlets, together with a credit naming the outlet and a link to the original article. It is an aggregator. It does not report the news itself, and it does not claim to.
African World News is published by African World News LLC, 1585 Northridge Road, Sandy Springs, GA 30350, USA.
2. The publisher’s story is the story
Every item here links to the outlet that produced it, and that outlet’s page is the authoritative version. Where our headline or extract differs in emphasis from the original, or where the original has since been updated or corrected, the publisher’s page governs.
Please read the original. The link is not a formality; visiting it is the point of an aggregator, and it is how the publisher earns from the work.
3. How much we take from any one publisher
We deliberately take a small selection rather than a copy of a publisher’s output. Current limits, applied as rolling daily ceilings per publisher and dropped rather than deferred when the ceiling is reached:
- The Conversation: at most one item a day. Their output runs at roughly two and a half items a day, so the limit stays below their own publishing rate by design.
- AllAfrica: at most four items a day per section. They publish far more than that each day across their sections, so this is a selection, not a mirror.
An item that would go over a ceiling is not held for later publication. Holding it and publishing it tomorrow is the same republication with a delay.
Two consequences follow, and we would rather they were stated than discovered. First, not everything a publisher publishes appears here, and that is the point. Second, not everything we fetch is published: some of it is discarded before it reaches the site, for the reasons in section 5.
4. What we take, and what we never take
From each story we carry the headline, the publisher’s name, the author and institution where the publisher supplies them, and a link to the original — plus an extract of up to forty words where that publisher’s terms allow an extract. Nothing more.
We never reproduce a full article. We never copy a publisher’s photographs, graphics or video: the site displays no images from any source, and a story carried here appears in text only.
For some publishers the terms are narrower still, and we follow the narrower terms. Where a publisher licenses headline and credit only, that is all we display, with no extract at all.
5. Language
African World News publishes in English. Where a feed carries items in another language, those items are set aside before publication rather than translated. A translation is a new version of someone else’s work and a different permission from quotation, so we do not make one. Some French-language items from The Conversation are discarded on that basis and never appear here.
6. The Conversation page-view counter
Items from The Conversation carry the page-view counter their syndication terms require: an invisible one-pixel image with a unique per-article identifier. It does not run on any other item on this site. Our Privacy Policy describes exactly what it sends.
7. Using the site
You are welcome to read, link to and share our pages. Please do not scrape the site in bulk, present our pages as your own, or use this site to break the law. We may rate-limit or block traffic that damages the service for readers.
8. Copyright and takedown
Headlines and short extracts belong to the publishers who wrote them. The arrangement of the site, and our own text, belong to African World News LLC.
If you publish one of these stories and want it removed, email al.sillah@outlook.com with “Copyright” in the subject line. Include the link to our page, the link to your original, and a statement that you own the rights or are authorised to act for the owner. We will remove the item and stop carrying that publisher while we look into it. You do not need to involve a lawyer to get an item removed, and we will not argue about a reasonable request.
9. Corrections
If we have miscopied a headline, misattributed a story or got a fact wrong, tell us and we will fix it. Corrections are made on the page, not by silent deletion.
10. No warranty
The site is provided as it is. We work to keep it accurate and available, but we do not promise it will be free of errors or interruptions, and we are not responsible for the content of the publishers’ pages we link to.
11. Limits of liability
To the extent the law allows, African World News LLC is not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of the site. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
12. Which law applies
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Georgia, United States, and disputes are for the state or federal courts sitting in Georgia.
13. Changes
If these terms change we will post the new version here and change the date at the top of the page.
