DRAFT — first version for review, not final legal wording. This page has not been reviewed by an attorney and has not been approved. It is written to describe what the site actually runs today. Anything we add later must be added here first.

The short version
- You can read African World News without giving us your name or your email address.
- We do not have reader accounts, and we do not sell personal information.
- Our web host keeps ordinary server logs. That is the main technical record of a visit.
- If you email us, we keep your message so we can answer it.
Who we are
African World News is published by African World News LLC (Georgia, United States; registration in progress), 1585 Northridge Road, Sandy Springs, GA 30350, USA. For any privacy question, write to al.sillah@outlook.com with “Privacy request” in the subject line.
What we collect
| What | How we get it | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Server logs | Automatically, from our web host | To serve pages, keep the site secure and diagnose faults. A log records an IP address, browser and device type, the page requested, the referring page, and the date and time. |
| Messages you send us | You give them to us, by email | To answer you, to correct an error, or to act on a copyright or takedown notice. |
| Aggregate page counts | Automatically, on syndicated items only (see below) | To report readership to the publisher whose work we carried, because they require it. |
We do not ask you to create an account, and we do not knowingly collect sensitive information such as health, religious or financial account data.
What is not running today
We would rather name what we run than describe what we might. As of the date at the top of this page, the site runs no third-party analytics script, no advertising network, no affiliate tracking, and no newsletter system. It sends no marketing email. If any of those is added, this page changes before the script goes live, and the Cookie section below is extended at the same time.
The Conversation page-view counter
Some of our items come from The Conversation, which permits us to republish a short extract on condition that we count the readership of each item. On those items, and only those, we embed the page-view counter they supply.
- The counter is an invisible image one pixel square, loaded when the page opens.
- Each syndicated item carries its own unique identifier, so the counts are per article rather than per visit across the whole site.
- In The Conversation’s own words, the counter “does not collect user data or personal information”. What reaches them is the page the count refers to, the referring URL and the version of your browser.
- It is their obligation on us, not a tool of ours: it appears on The Conversation items and nowhere else on this site.
Cookies
The site itself sets no advertising or analytics cookies. WordPress sets a cookie only when someone signs in to the administration area, which readers do not do; logging in is limited to the people who run the site.
The page-view counter described above works as a request for a tiny image and does not set a cookie on your device. Your browser may send it a referring URL and its own version string, as it would for any image on any page.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time. Blocking the counter image does not stop you reading the site.
How long we keep things
- Server logs are kept by our host for a short operational period determined by the host’s plan, and by us only as long as needed to investigate a fault or an attack.
- Messages you send us are kept for as long as needed to deal with the matter, and longer if a legal claim is possible.
Who we share it with
We share personal information only with the services that run the site, and only as far as needed:
- Hostinger hosts the site and keeps the server logs.
- The Conversation receives the per-article page count for items we carry from them, as described above.
- Authorities, where the law requires it, or to protect rights and safety.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-site advertising.
Where your data is processed
We are based in the United States and our host may process data in the United States and elsewhere. If you are outside the United States, that means your information may be transferred there, where privacy law may differ from the law where you live.
Your choices
You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Write to al.sillah@outlook.com with “Privacy request” in the subject line and tell us what you want and which email address you used. We may need to confirm the request came from you. We aim to reply within 30 days.
Because we do not operate an account system, we often cannot tie a server log entry to a person. Where that is the case, we will tell you so rather than pretend otherwise.
Children
This is a general-audience news site for adults. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has given us information, write to us and we will delete it.
Security
The site is served over HTTPS, its software is kept updated, and administrative access is limited to the people who run it. No website can be completely secure.
Changes
If this policy changes we will post the new version here and change the date at the top of the page.
